Private - Winter Crevasse Rescue & Glacier Travel
- Duration: 2 Days
Learn the essential backcountry skill of crevasse rescue and glacier travel with one of our experienced guides!
Winter Crevasse Rescue and Glacier Travel is a comprehensive 2 day course for backcountry skiers and splitboarders who plan to be in a glacier environment. Day 1 is dryland training to learn rope technique and gear use, rigging, anchoring. Rappelling and rope ascent is covered. Day 2 starts with a short classroom session to learn to identify crevasse hazards. The rest of the day is spent in the snow learning how to properly rope up a team of travellers, best practices, route selection, how to arrest a fall and rescue a victim. An important point that differentiates our course from others is the un-roped victim course component. This includes rappelling and ascending into and out of a crevasse to perform rescue of an un-roped victim - an essential skill considering over 85% of glacier skiing is performed un-roped.
