Glacier Glissading - Group
- Duration: 150 Minutes
- Product code: GGWhistlerGROUP
Have you experienced the thrill of sliding down a slippery slide or gliding through snow on a toboggan? Glacier Glissading not only combines both of these into one ultra-fun activity, but does so on summer snowpack! The 15,000-thousand-year old alpine glacier is just a short walk from the Whistler Gondola through some stunning alpine terrain. This tour includes all of the interpretive aspects of our Glacier Discovery Tour plus Glissading. You get two tours in one!
The tour starts by discovering local flora and fauna and learning about glacial formation, while walking on-route through the spectacular alpine terrain. You then follow the guide up easy snow steps to an elevated rise on the glacier. Here you start glissading, sliding down in glee on one of the most beautiful natural wonders on Earth! Glaciers are precious and the remaining winter snowpack is fleeting, making the glacier tour a unique and especially memorable experience.
Tour outline:
Ride the Whistler Gondola to our mountain top office. Here you are outfitted with helmets. The tour starts with a short hike to the glacier. Along the way you can discover all manner of beautiful, curious and interesting flora and fauna. This includes striated glacier polished slabs, colourful flowers that forge soil recently freed by glacial recession, the mighty cracked in half glacial erratic, and even the whistle of a Whistler marmot. The area the tour visits is also a cirque glacier, thus putting you in the middle of a natural amphitheater surrounded by craggy ridges and peaks - A truly remarkable place!
Once you reach the glacier, the guide will lead you up a gentle slope, making snow steps for you to follow. Arriving atop a natural rise in the glacier, many glissading options exist on the same slope. Choose either a gentle glissade or a more adventurous slide down. Most choose a steeper, faster run!
Névé, as summer snow is called, is exciting to slide on and is present rain or shine. Everyone is encouraged to enjoy glissading more than once! We recommend bringing rain pants or an extra pair of pants and socks. The snow can be wet and many of our tour participants go on to enjoy more sightseeing like the Peak 2 Peak gondola afterwards.
The tour is 2.5-3 hours rain or shine, and no experience is necessary. The only requirement is an adventurous attitude and a willingness to embrace your inner child!
